In this workshop we will explore the vibration of the ancestral Water Gourds from Africa, also known as Tina (Guinea Bissau) and Gi Doundun (Mali). Through traditional African and Spanish rhythms and fun rhythm games, this class will help us to develop greater understanding of world rhythm.

The water-gourd is formed by floating a half gourd face-down in a bowl of water and then hitting it with mallets or hands. It’s beautiful sound is characterized by a deep bass resonance and earthy upper-tones.
